Christmas Baptismal and a huge update!

December 23, 2008

Merry Christmas! It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged here, but that doesn’t mean nothing’s been happening. In fact, so much has been going on that it’s a bit crazy!

Let’s see now: Since September we started a brand new Friday night program playing volleyball twice a week at Holy Cross Elementary-Junior High school. It’s been great! So many new faces come out every week to play and it’s also got me fired up again about volleyball my favorite sport. But what makes these evenings so fun is hanging out afterwards at Tim Horton’s and getting to know each other better in Christ.

Aside from our usual potluck events, such as our thanksgiving service, we also had our fifth year anniversary celebration on December 7th! With guest speaker Rev. David Hall from the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, and a special 20 minute movie presentation at the end of the service, followed by a yummy luncheon, it was great to see everyone and to celebrate all of God’s blessings on our church over the past 5 years.

Then it was time for our Christmas celebration on December 21st. This time it was an extra special Christmas with the baptism of two wonderful people, Kelly and Joon. Here’s some pictures for you to see!

Kelly gives her testimony!

Joon gives us his testimony!

Christmas Lunch!

Your’s truly with brother Greg!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Stay tuned for so much more to come in 2009!

Oh… and if you’re interested in joining us for Volleyball, drop us a line using our website contact form.

God bless!

August 10, Chinese Seniors outreach

August 13, 2008

Hello all,

Well it’s been a really hot August. This August 10th we also went out to the Chinese seniors lodge again for an awesome outreach. Some of the Chinese congregation members put on a really great performance for the seniors, one senior received Jesus Christ, and we all had so much fun!

Blessings on you!

Durban, you are loved

August 4, 2008

In July a team of six people composed of five from Glory to God Christian Assembly, flew half way across the world to Durban, South Africa for a missions trip with Operation Mobilization. There were about 300 people from all across the world that congregated in Durban for a massive missions outreach to the hindu people, muslims, zulus and various other ethnic groups. Dispatched in teams to places like a valley of a thousand hills, and living with the local people, the group witnessed the most beautiful scenes, coupled with the most barren spiritual landscapes. In a land so beautiful, so few knew who Jesus was, and so many were locked in poverty, and suffering. Out of all the 300 international missionaries, the only 6 that were Canadian, came from Edmonton. Spending two weeks in Durban, ministering in their various separate teams, those six would learn so much about God’s work in Durban and see His powerful hand moving there. Upon returning, the stories and testimonies they brought back were heart stirring, among which some of the most real were of the hardships they all faced in Durban.

Here is two videos that showcase the things they saw. We hope you are blessed by their videos and stories, and invite you to drop us a line at http://www.glorychurch.ca if you’d like to learn more about their missions trip and the many opportunities we have ongoing at Glory to God Christian Assembly.

Blessings, :)

Pioneer Ranch Summer Retreat

June 23, 2008

Well folks, we’re back from a sweet retreat from June 13-15th, when the church made its way down to Sundre Alberta all the way to the Pioneer Ranch camp. Needless to say, it was an awesome time! I personally wished I could have stayed for another whole week. Riding the horses twice (or double dipping as Randy calls it), shooting archery, climbing the rock wall, spending time with our church, it was so fun. There is something so special about fellowshipping with the people that you love in Christ.

The theme of the church retreat was “Qualities of a servant of God” and we had special guest speaker Rev. David Hall, from the PAOC with us on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. It was such an awesome time. Some of our members were filled by the Holy Spirit, some were touched, but everyone was blessed.

We leave you now with two very special movies that our brothers Tommy and Greg put together for us.

We are blessed to be a blessing! See you on Friday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday mornings at 11:00 AM.

Blessings,

Kenneth

Friday events

June 2, 2008

Be prepared for a huge huge blog post. So much has happened at Glory to God Christian Assembly!

We just concluded an awesome month of May where our theme for Bible Studies on Friday nights was focused on the Biblical perspective for men and women. We separated into two different groups, men with the men, and women with the women, and we had such a great time.

Here are just some of the pictures from those Bible Studies.

Let’s start with the women!

And here’s the men!

On one of our Friday nights in may we spent the evening having a fun skits night. It’s hard to grasp the extreme laughter that was constantly erupting from these images. But just imagine uproarious laughter, gut wrenchingly funny dramas, and some super creative skits.

Then on June 1st, that just passed, we headed out for a regular ministry that we serve at the Chinese Senior’s Lodge in Downtown Edmonton. It’s a time where we put on a service for the seniors that don’t necessarily have the opportunity to attend church. And it is always a very uplifting and great time!

Stay tuned for so much more coming in the next little while, including our upcoming retreat, and a really awesome missions trip to south africa!

We invite you to join us on Friday nights and Sunday morning!

God Bless!

There’s just so much to study and so little time.

April 21, 2008

Well it’s been an awesome time studying the Bible (as per usual) on Friday evenings.

But this past three weeks we’ve had the exciting time of studying what the Bible says about business/economics.

This last week we talked about The Interview.

Well here comes another scintillating Bible Study. This Friday we’ll be studying specifically what the Bible says about Starting a Business.

How do you do it? And what’s the Biblical way to do it right? Whether you’re going into real estate as a realtor, or you’re considering starting a practice… whether you’re considering buying into a company, or forming a new one… from ebay sellers to service providers…. everyone can learn something valuable.

Even if you’ve never wanted to start a business, someday you might. This is your chance to gain some valuable knowledge straight from God’s Word that will benefit you for life!

April happenings

April 8, 2008

It’s amazing that we’re in the 2nd week of April already, and it’s an understatement to say that many exciting things happened since our last post.

First of all, the English congregation started their new English Sunday school on the book of Ruth. This book shows the awesome grace of God towards non-Israelites, and there’s also famine, a young, hard-working and loyal Moabite widow, a godly man by the name of Boaz, barley, and bread dipped in wine vinegar! This exciting class is led by Pastor Yuri.

We also started a new Bible study series titled, “What does the Bible say about Business” on Friday. We welcome you to join us weekly at the church on Friday at 7:30pm.

Here’s some photos from the past couple weeks, brought to you by Canon (just kidding).

On a personal note, I’ve been listening to a lot of good ol’ worship music lately, and there’s a song by Paul Baloche which really touches me whenever it’s playing. It’s called, “Your Name” and it’s sings about the awesome, glorious, mighty, holy and saving name of Jesus.

Here’s the song on Youtube.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday

March 23, 2008

Another amazing week at church. So many exciting things happened this weekend. Good Friday found us remembering the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. We watched a portion of the Passion of the Christ – a movie that always shocks me at how much the Lord Jesus did for us – and that was only a theatrical version – not even the real thing. We also heard the Good News from God’s Word preached by Pastor Yuri.

Among some awesome things: we have a new sound guy, a new guitarist, a brand new translator technology, and so much more. We serve an Awesome God, and Jesus is alive! We praise Him.

After both church services we had food in some way, shape or form. It seems we do eat quite a lot. ;) lol.

I don’t seem to be getting many pictures from the services lately. Mostly because I’m enjoying them too much and forget to take the camera out. I’ll see if I can remember to do it next time we have something special.

But here’s some pics from the food fest afterwards. :)

First here’s Good Friday

And here we have our Easter Sunday

The last picture showcases Anne’s brand new baby Max swigging a bottle of hot sauce. Hey… they don’t call him Max for nothing! ;)

Sorry if you’re looking for your picture and can’t find it. It’s tough getting everyone. :)

5 days to Easter

March 17, 2008

Edmonton Christian Church

Only 5 days until Good Friday, we had an awesome service this morning. Singing Hosanna and inviting the Lord Jesus into the church was uplifting. We sang Amazing Grace (Chris Tomlin’s version) to end. With all the different nationalities represented in our midst this morning, from Ethiopia, the Philippines, Japan, China, the UK, and the list goes on! (Don’t worry Malaysia we haven’t forgotten you. ;) One can only imagine how it’ll be in heaven when we sing Amazing Grace around the throne of God.

Edmonton Christian Church

During the English Sunday school we watched the latter half of Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel. It was another amazing Sunday school and so inspirational. Since God created the cosmos all the way down to the inner-cell in such great detail, then we can have faith to believe that He has a great plan for each one of our lives and knows us intimately deep within!

The above picture is of a double Helix of a DNA strand and if you look closely, you’ll see the DNA bases, G, T, C, and A. Hmmm…. sounds familiar doesn’t it? :) Maybe there’s a little bit of GTGCA in all of us. And by the way, in case you didn’t get that, think about our church initials.

Here’s a picture of Randy who led the Sunday school. Sorry for the poor picture quality. This was taken with a Canon point and shoot in relatively low light.

As we prepare for Good Friday, we just want to remind you that this Friday is a special night and everyone is invited to attend the service at 7:00 pm.

May God bless you as you draw closer to Him day by day.

Kenneth
